In the wake of the deadliest shooting in US history, comfort dogs were quickly on their way to bring peace and love in a time of great sadness. Golden Retrievers and their owners from the group descended on Orlando from seven states, by any means possible.
The aim was to bring comfort to the families and friends of those caught up in the Pulse nightclub massacre, as they tried to deal with their grief. Some of the dogs also visited the first responders to the shooting, as well as local residents who needed a moment with a gorgeous golden dog to help them feel safe again.
LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs is co-ordinated by the Chicago-based Lutheran Church Charities, and includes an elite force of trained Golden Retrievers who specialise in hugs and cuddles.
“The dogs are great listeners, they’re confidential, they’re non-judgmental and they’re here just to love on people and help people process what they’ve gone through,” Trinity Lutheran Church said on its Facebook page.
