Donald Trump recently made remarks suggesting that New York Mayor Eric Adams faced indictment after criticizing the Biden administration’s approach to immigration. During a press conference at Trump Tower, the former president expressed his thoughts on Adams, who was indicted on multiple federal charges, including bribery and wire fraud.
Trump extended his “luck” to Adams but clarified that he was unaware of the specifics of the charges. Adams has become the first sitting mayor in modern history to face such federal criminal charges, with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York unveiling a five-count indictment related to illegal campaign contributions and other benefits for his 2021 mayoral campaign.
At the press conference, Trump claimed he had predicted Adams’s arrest over a year ago, referencing the mayor’s comments about the impact of illegal migrants on New York City and calling for federal assistance. He stated, “I said ‘you know what, he’ll be indicted within the year’ and I was exactly right.”
Trump further criticized the use of the justice system, claiming that “we have people that use the justice department and the FBI at levels that have never been seen before.” He concluded by calling for an “honest justice department” and FBI, expressing his discontent with what he termed “dirty players” in the system.
