In a remarkable event, three lionesses ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋed a crocodile that was attempting to devour one of the pride’s young. The defending females took swift action to repel the menacing predator.
The croc was precisely ringed by the lionesses, who then ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋed it with a flurry of blows. One of the large cats was bit by the crocodile during the ғɪɢʜᴛ, but the pride quickly dispatched it.
Tony Goldman, a 58-year-old cardiologist, took the unusual pictures on the Duba Plains of Bᴏᴛsᴡᴀɴᴀ while on a safari with his child. According to him, the lionesses had just ᴋɪʟʟed a buffalo when a crocodile appeared from the lake approximately 100 yards away and started nibbling on the flesh.
The crocodile began to approach one of the smaller cubs in a ᴛᴇʀʀɪғʏing manner before ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋing it when it got in its path. This prompted a coordinated ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋ on the croc by three adjacent lionesses.
Tony was expecting the croc to run away, but it stayed, leading to a fierce struggle in which the croc bit one of the lionesses. Before the lionesses were able to defeat the invader, there was a commotion and tons of dust flying everywhere.
He said that only his child, their driver, and he were present for the whole of the about 15-minute episode. They were quite fortunate since the driver hurried up like a madman to get on time after hearing about the buffalo.
