MinHee (real name Nguyen Minh Hy), at the age of 3, currently resides in Hanoi with her parents. She is a talented bilingual child who is adored by many in the English learning community. Despite not yet being of school age, she already possesses a natural and fluent English communication ability that impresses many, allowing her to converse like a native speaker
With her adorable pronunciation, and a mix of charming stuttering in both Vietnamese and English, skillfully combined with her parents’ influence, MinHee has created a unique impression that quickly draws hundreds of thousands of views to her TikTok channel ‘Em bé nói tiếng Anh’ (Baby Speaking English).
Behind MinHee’s exceptional linguistic brilliance is her incredibly patient mother, Chị Do Quynh Anh (28 years old), an English teacher in Hanoi, who introduced her child to foreign languages even while she was still in the womb.
Meeting and listening to the sharing and stories of MinHee’s mother just before Mother’s Day, I feel like I understand more about the journey of motherhood and gain new perspectives on teaching bilingual English – Vietnamese to children at a young age
When MinHee was just born, I assigned my husband to communicate with her in Vietnamese, while I took charge of the English part.
In addition, whenever the two of us are at home together, I always engage in conversation, read stories, and expose her to English passively on a daily basis. We also watch carefully selected YouTube channels that focus on tone, situational context to help her practice organizing her thoughts for fluent and clear communication, as well as improving her grammar skills
