Meghan Markle has always had a motherly touch, even before officially becoming a mom.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, revealed her long-standing love for feeding others in episode six of With Love, Meghan, which premiered on Netflix on March 4. While preparing food for a taco bar ahead of a game night with friends Tracy Robbins, Victoria Jackson, and Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, Meghan shared her passion for cooking and hospitality.
“I love feeding people. Maybe that’s a mom thing, but even before I had kids, I just loved the idea of being able to see someone go, ‘Gasp — that’s so good,’ and knowing you were a part of that,” Meghan said while making plantain chips and guacamole.
Meghan’s love for food extends beyond just cooking at home. She shared that her mother, Doria Ragland, gifted her a food dehydrator for Christmas, which she now uses to preserve citrus for margaritas. “My home also has a lot of fruit trees. We share it with friends and donate to a local food bank,” she added.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the Duchess reflected on how food plays a significant role in her life.
“Some of my favorite childhood memories are the meals my mom would make. She cooked a lot of soul food. I remember she took a Thai cooking class, so every week we had Thai BBQ chicken and spring rolls. I want my kids to have those same formative memories. We call them Mama Meals, and I hope when they grow up and have their own families, they’ll think back and say, ‘Let’s have a Mama Meal.’”
Meghan’s passion for food isn’t new—before marrying Prince Harry, she ran the lifestyle blog The Tig from 2014 to 2017, where she often shared recipes and dining experiences. After joining the royal family, she spearheaded the 2018 charity cookbook Together: Our Community Cookbook, supporting women affected by the Grenfell Tower fire through the Hubb Community Kitchen.
During the latest episode of With Love, Meghan, a friend asked if another cookbook was on the horizon. Laughing, Meghan downplayed the idea, saying she had no immediate plans.
With Love, Meghan marks the Duchess of Sussex’s first solo hosting venture on Netflix. Filmed in Montecito, the eight-episode series explores Meghan’s hobbies, including cooking, crafting, and entertaining, as she welcomes friends into her home.
“This is about connecting with friends, making new friends, and just learning,” Meghan said in the official trailer.
