MrBeast’s latest social media video has fans comparing it to another famous stunt.
In the video, MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, sits in a red armchair behind a jet plane’s engine. He wore a smart brown suit and had a newspaper in his hands with a white lamp next to him.
However, Instagram users noticed something familiar about the set up – comparing it to a stunt done in the film Jacka– 3, based off the MTV show.
The film came out in 2010 and was a feature-long film full of typical stunts seen on the television show. Notable pranks in the film include standing in front of a charging bull and stunt performer Steve-O being launched into the air while in a full port-a-potty.
But one of the stuntmen, Ryan Dunn, performs a stunt where he sits in a leather armchair in front of a speaker with a white lamp next to him. He wore a wild curly haired brown wig that’s blown off his head as the camera pans out and shows him sitting in front of a jet plane engine.
Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries plays as the chair eventually flips over and Ryan goes barreling across the grass as his fellow cast members look on, gobsmacked. “That felt like somebody was blowing a fireball at my face,” Ryan later told his friends. “You can’t f—–g breathe.”
MrBeast’s video was a bit different than the one in the Jacka– film. The jet engine power increases throughout the video, starting at 1% and ending at 100%.
The power slowly went up in increments and once it got to the 40% mark, MrBeast wore goggles for protection. As it reached 100%, the video was edited to show MrBeast flying off into the sky.
One fan commented on MrBeast’s video in Spanish: “I think they copied it from Jacka–!” Someone else replied to them: “I thought the same thing as soon as the video started.”
Many others commented “RIP Ryan Dunn.” The star tragically died in a car accident in 2011 when he was 34-years-old.
