The results of the British MotoGP Grand Prix at Silverstone have been looking forward to the election of Ducati riders for the 2025 season.
The race was won by Enea Bastianini, who also achieved his first victory in a Sprint on Saturday, while the Italian overtook Jorge Martín in the final stages of the race of 20 races in Sunday.
Both riders have been dispatched by Ducati for 2025, with Martín moving from Bolonia to Noale to join Aprilia, and Bastianini joining the Tech3 KTM team.
The reason for their respective climbs is the attachment of Marc Márquez — who finished his fourth year in Silverstone, just after the rider with whom he will join in the official race next year, Francesco Bagnaia — to the factory Ducati team starting next time .
The general director of Ducati Corse, Gigi Dall’Igna, declared on the Italian Sky Sport channel in Silverstone that he takes the criticism directed at Ducati for the decisions of the riders who have taken it.
After Bastianini’s victory in Great Britain and expanding on the decision to replace him by Márquez starting in 2025, Dall’Igna said: “I am extremely happy for him [Bastianini]. Unfortunately, we need to choose a pilot of three. Without embargo, all of them need to be in the official team. As I always say, it was a very difficult decision to move from a professional and sporting point of view, but also a human one. It is clear that I am here to receive criticism and accept it as it should be.”
2024 saw Ducati take a big step forward in performance. This year saw a new tire from Michelin which significantly reduced the racing and racing records, but also seemed to adapt better to the characteristics of the Desmosedici GP24 than its title-winning predecessor, the GP23, driven this year by Márquez .
After Silverstone, the #93 told Sky Sports that “it seems like we’re flying more and more, race after race. It’s not because they simply go faster, or have introduced some new things into the motorbike”.
Joining the factory team next year, presumably, means that Márquez will become the most recent Ducati team, which in recent years has been the most competitive in MotoGP. However, Dall’Igna insists that maintaining this level of performance is not safe for Ducati.
“Every year is a completely new book and a lot will depend on how different teams worked during the winter,” I told Sky Sports. “We have ideas that we are developing, but we never know what the competence can do. The important thing, however, is to concentrate on today, which we will think about next year.
“Personally, I’m happy with the performance of the bike. We have been at a very good level for a long time and we hope to continue like this.”
